Philip H. Bartels, CFA
DIRECTOR OF RESEARCH & PORTFOLIO STRATEGY
Philip joined Hunter Associates in 2016 and leads the research efforts on portfolio construction, asset allocation, macroeconomic research, securities research and hedging strategy implementation. In addition, he is a member of the firm’s Investment Committee and oversees the Hunter Portfolio Series, a collection of asset allocation strategies for clients. Prior to joining Hunter Associates, Philip held investment analyst/economist positions in both Europe and the United States with Wellington Management Company, the European Central Bank, Allianz Global Investors and Deutsche Bank AG.
Philip holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Williams College and an M.A. in international economics and international relations from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS). He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation and is a member of the Pittsburgh CFA Society where he is active in mentoring initiatives that teach college students financial planning and fundamental security analysis.
Philip lives in Highland Park with his wife and daughter and spends much of his time discovering the neighborhoods of Pittsburgh and all that the city has to offer. He enjoys baseball, hockey, soccer and skiing among other sports and spends as much time as he can outdoors cycling and hiking. He is fluent in German and is a member of the Pittsburgh German-American Chamber of Commerce.
Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA®): This designation is offered by the CFA Institute. To obtain the CFA charter, candidates must successfully complete three exams and gain at least three years of qualifying work experience, among other requirements. In passing these exams, candidates demonstrate their competence, integrity and extensive knowledge in accounting, ethical and professional standards, economics, portfolio management and security analysis.
